How to set new tab to not load until I open it?

Post by BiankaNeve » Fri Jul 27, 2018 8:08 am

Hey everyone, can somebody please help me find how to set a new tab not to preload until I have manually switched to it?
I sometimes have to open lots of new tabs for my work, some of them containing media, which would start to play and I have to search for it and that not only is annoying and time consuming but also causes my laptop to lag. I am sure there was a way to set it to not load, but I can't seem to find it. I am using the latest version of Cyberfox.
Thanks in advance!

Hi BiankaNeve

Firefox used to have the option to stop background pages from loading until you select it, but that feature was removed quite some versions back to prevent some performance issues that it caused with Mozilla's multi process e10s.

If you would like to get this ability back, you can install the Load Tab on select add-on or find another with the functionality you need as long as its compatible with 52.0 esr.
